Second interim report on "Serbia and Montenegro"
The ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency (ISO 3166/MA) is not yet in a position to take a decision on new country code elements for Serbia and Montenegro.
On 2003-05-14 the three-month reply period expired which had been given to Serbia and Montenegro to comment on proposals for new codes in ISO 3166-1. The ISO Secretary General and and the authorities of Serbia and Montenegro agreed on an extended period for establishing the official position of the national Government. It is ISO's view that given the present situation it is warranted to wait for an official statement of the Government of Serbia and Montenegro.

The extended reply period ends on Monday, 2003-06-09. After this date ISO Central Secretariat will assess the situation and will post information on further developments at this Web site.

The ISO 3166/MA again recommends that the code elements representing the country name Yugoslavia in ISO 3166-1 (YU, YUG and 891) be used for Serbia and Montenegro on an interim basis until the official changes in ISO 3166-1 are announced.
