Sada se ocekuje da ce proizvodjaci i trgovci pokusati da iskoriste priliku, buduci da je uskoro dan sa najvecom prodajom "The day after the American Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday, is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year." sto nisam znao.

Tu sam prvi put saznao i za termin "NETbook" (dakle ne "notebook"), kojim se oznacavaju ovi noviji, malecki laptopovi: "The concept of the netbook stems from subnotebooks, while the term itself was introduced by Psion in 1999[1] and re-introduced by Intel in the first quarter of 2008 shortly after they withdrew from the OLPC Association.[2][3]

In 2007, Asus unveiled the Intel Celeron-based ASUS Eee PC range running a customised version of Linux (or, user installed, Microsoft Windows XP) on a 7 inch color screen[citation needed]. These machines measure just 8.9 × 6.5in and have less-than-full-sized keyboards. The Eee PC has been a top seller on Amazon.com[4] and is often sold out in retail stores. The EEE's success is largely attributed to the relatively low price (around $350/£230/€300) compared with standard-sized laptops, which easily priced above $1000 at that time."

A common opinion voiced by many who write about technology (myself included) is that the key to wider, even mainstream acceptance of Linux is the availability of preloaded systems at major retail outlets, side by side with Windows systems. In the United States and Canada we are seeing that happen for the first time this holiday season. For the most part this is limited to the very popular netbook systems. Linux-based netbooks started appearing in US big box retailers over the past couple of weeks. The ASUS Eee PC 900a, preloaded with Xandros Desktop, is now available at Target and Best Buy Stores for US$299. Additional offerings from Hewlett-Packard, Dell, MSI, and others, all preloaded with Linux, are promised for store shelves this season with prices reportedly starting at US$199.
