RIM: BlackBerry OS 6 Likely The Last BB OS

With the waves that the QNX operating system introduced in the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is making, it comes as no surprise that the latest BlackBerry OS 6 may be the last of its kind.

RIM VP confirms QNX will replace BlackBerry OS

IntoMobile.com reports that at the BlackBerry Developer Conference today, a RIM VP has confirmed that the QNX operating system will be making its way to smartphones in the long run and eventually replace the existing BlackBerry OS. This will take time of course as he said BlackBerry 7 would likely be the stepping stone to the full switch.

Adopting the QNX OS seems like a smart move on RIM's part as the new operating system offer stability, lower power consumption, Flash capability, better efficiency and bigger developer platform support.

That said, we wonder what will happen to all the BlackBerry apps already developed? RIM hasn't been very clear on whether they will be able to run on the PlayBook.
