Apple has apparently banned an iPad-based magazine from its online store - because the titled focuses on Google's Android platform.

The app comes from Danish tech publisher Mediaprovider, whose boss, Brian Dixen, told local newssite Digitale Medier this his app, Android Magasinet, had been rejected by Apple's App Store guardians.

Their problem, he said, was the subject matter.

Android Magasinet launched in Denmark on 11 November as a bi-monthly paper title, and the publisher hoped to have the app online shortly after that.

Ironically, Dixen later admitted to Danish newssite Mediawatch that he wasn't expecting huge sales from the iOS version of the app, but he's not unreasonably concerned about the precedent Apple's decision sets.

What business of Apple's is it what the users of its devices read?

If Apple wants the iPad to become a ubiquitous magazine and newspaper publishing platform, it's going to have to become rather more broad-minded about what it lets onto the App Store than it currently appears to be. ®
